About Us

Guten Foods is the owner and operator of two of Portland’s oldest and most popular restaurant concepts: Der Rheinlander and Gustav’s. The company was founded by Horst Mager, “Portland’s first celebrity chef,” in 1963 and remains a family operation today, with Horst’s daughter Suzeanne purchasing the company in the 1997.

Under Suzeanne, the company has focused on providing fresh, seasonal and high quality German and European cuisine – with a Northwest twist – in a casual and festive atmosphere. Its bars offer original and seasonal cocktails alongside an unparalleled selection of imported German beers, as well as Oregon craft beers, and Northwest and domestic wines. Guten Foods also is committed to ensuring the highest level of customer service and satisfaction.

Guten Foods’ newest concept, Gustav’s Bargarten, is set to open at Keizer Station in 2015, offering a unique, contemporary and open space to socialize and enjoy fine food and drink with family and friends – new and old alike.
